International Mother Language Day (আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস)

The 21st February is the International Mother Language Day. It is a glorious day for our national life. The day has a long history The tyrannical Pakistani rulers had been trying to impose Urdu as sta (language) upon us since 1947 instead of Bangla. But the people of our country did not bow down to that ill motive of the then government. At last, their conspiracy came to failure when some heroic sons of the land sacrificed their valuable lives for the causes of our mother tongue on 21st February 1952 To commemorate their sacrifice this day was declared Shaheed Dibash. This day got international recognition in 1999 as it was declared the International Mother Language Day by UNESCO. On this day people get up early in the morning. They go to the Shaheed Minar barefooted with a bunch of flowers. They show love and respect to the language martyrs by offering flowers on the foot of the Shaheed Minar. Many meetings and seminars are held throughout the country. People also pray for the salvation of the souls of martyrs in different religious institutions.

বঙ্গানুবাদ: একুশে ফেব্রুয়ারি আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস। এটা আমাদের জাতীয় জীবনে গৌরবময় দিন। এ দিনটির লম্বা ইতিহাস রয়েছে। ১৯৪৭ সাল থেকে পাকিস্তানি অত্যাচারী শাসকরা বাংলার পরিবর্তে উর্দুকে রাষ্ট্রভাষা করতে চেষ্টা করেছিল। কিন্তু বাঙালিরা তৎকালীন সরকারের দুরভিসন্ধির কাছে মাথা নোয়ায় নি। অবশেষে তাদের সমস্ত খড়যন্ত্র ব্যর্থতায় পরিণত হয় ১৯৫২ সালের ২১ ফেব্রুয়ারিতে কিছু বীর সন্তানেরা মূল্যবান জীবন মাতৃভাষার জন্য উৎসর্গ করার জন্য। তাদেরকে স্মরণ করার জন্য এ দিনটিকে শহিদদিবস ঘোষণা করা হয়। ইউনেস্কো ১৯৯৯ সালে আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা ঘোষণা করার ফলে আন্তর্জাতিক স্বীকৃতি পায়। এ দিনে মানুষজন সকালে ঘুম থেকে উঠে, একগুচ্ছ ফুল নিয়ে খালি পায়ে শহিদমিনারে যায়। শহিদমিনারের পাদদেশে ফুল অর্পণ করার মাধ্যমে তারা ভালোবাসা ও শ্রদ্ধা আপন করে। সমগ্র দেশ জুড়ে সভা, আলোচনা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। মানুষজন বিভিন্ন ধর্মীয় অঙ্গনে তাদের আত্মার শান্তি কামনা করে।
